Welcome to the Ranaviru Fund

The "Ranaviru Fund" (English meaning "War Heroes' Fund") was established in May 2008 to support disabled and wounded soldiers in Sri Lanka by providing Medical & Rehabilitation aid. Ranaviru Fund was granted the Registered Charity status in May 2010 from the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

J.M.S.T Jayasundara

J.M.S.T  Jayasundara (13 years) of Dimbulagala has got a deformity in the spine and needs urgent surgical correction. The surgery will be performed at the National Hospital by Dr. Vasantha Perera (Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon). The implants for the surgery needs to be bought from an agent at a cost of Rs.550,000/-. Father of the child is earning around 30,000/- a month and after loan deductions receives only 19,000/-, and is not in a position of raising the funds needed.

Project "Walk Again"

Ranaviru Fund has launched its newest project to provide fully flexible modern artificial lower limbs to War Veterans. These prosthetic limbs are manufactured at Aawas International, a local company that has won several local and international awards for their high quality product, the "Live Flex" artificial lower limb.

Building Wash Rooms for Soldiers Who Have Suffered Permanent Disability

Currently there are a number of soldiers rehabilitated at Ranaviru Sevana, Ragama waiting to return home to rejoin their families. However, most of these valiant soldiers have suffered permanent disabilities and require disable friendly wash room facilities at their residences in order to get back to their homes. Many of these soldiers do not have access to suitable wash room and water facilities. Ranaviru Fund has initiated a project to provide suitable wash room and water facilities for the soldiers recommended by the Ranaviru Sevana authorities.

We have received names of 9 such soldiers from different parts of the country and have selected 3 of them in Anuradhapura district to pilot the project. We have identified several soldiers currently based at Ranaviru Sevana and other Regimental Rehabilitation centres who are deprived of the opportunity of joining their families due to the lack of disabled friendly wash room facilities at their own homes. In phase 4 of our ongoing projects we are aiming to build wash rooms for these 9 soldiers.

Corporal Mahinda Re-gains Eye Sight after 18 years

Corporal Mahinda Eidirisooriya lost both hands and both eyes in a route clearing operation in 1991 when he was only 20 years of age. He met his loving wife after the injury and now they have two young sons aged 14 and 5. Mahinda who has been blind for the past 18 years has not seen his children nor his wife.

He was examined by Dr. Rajesh Fogla at the Lanka Hospitals and was advised that he could regain sight in one eye by undergoing a Boston Keratopathesis surgery. The surgery was estimated to cost Rs.250,000/-. Mahinda secured funding from the Army and the Ranaviru Seva Authority and approached us to raise the balance. Ranaviru Fund with the generous help of five donors raised the balance 137,000/= Mahinda underwent surgery on 01st-September-2010, and three weeks later, several members of the Ranaviru Fund visited Mahinda at his residence. Mahinda described to us that he’s noticing an improvement everyday. He told us with excitement that he could identify the shape of the grills when the morning sunlight comes through the window into his room.

Mahinda anxiously waits the healing of surgical wounds to see his loving wife and two sons for the very first time.

Ranaviru Fund recognised as a Registered Charity in the United Kingdom

We are pleased to announce that Ranaviru Fund has received the charitable status in the United Kingdom on 13 May 2010 from the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) under charity number SC041479.

If you are willing to donate to Ranaviru Fund or have donated in the past, kindly complete the Gift Aid Declaration (if you are a UK Tax payer) and return the form to us via email. Ranaviru Fund will be able to claim up to 28% of your donation from the HMRC without any extra cost to you.

Delivery of items for the benefit of Visually Impaired Soldiers

Ranaviru Fund is pleased to announce the delivery of items to setup a resource centre for the soldiers with visual impairments. There are many soldiers who suffered eye injuries in the war against terrorism and subsequently lost complete sight or partial sight. Having inquired their requirements we were able to provide some of the necessary equipment to initiate this facility at the Ranaviru Sevana, Ragama.

Members from Ranaviru Fund officially handed these items to Major Dushyantha Yapa and other fellow officers and soldiers at the rehabilitation centre on 07th March 2010.
